Aalborg is the cheapest of the four cities we have been through. A julefrokost here starts at 250 kroner per person; in Odense it is 298, in Copenhagen 365. That is not an accident of the sample — it is two houses in the middle of town that have deliberately priced low, and it makes Aalborg the city where a party of twenty can hold a proper Christmas lunch without spending a fortune. The comparison across all four cities — cheapest, dearest and number of Christmas menus — is in the nationwide julefrokost guide.
We fetched every house in the city with a website on 4 October 2026 and read them through. Three have a Christmas menu up with prices. They are below, copied verbatim. Three others have the Christmas lunch in their own navigation but no figures we could see — they are included, and it says so at each of them.
The three Christmas menus with prices
All figures copied from the houses' own pages on 4 October 2026, per person.
| Place | From | What it is | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proud Mary | 250 kr | classic Christmas lunch, served | whole season |
| Duus Vinkælder | 269 kr | Christmas buffet, lunch Mon-Thu | from 13 Nov |
| Aalborg Street Food | 849 kr | company party in the event hall, free bar included | minimum 50 guests |
The price of the food is only half the sum — which is why the three figures cannot be compared directly. Proud Mary and Duus sell the drinks separately, and that is where the evening gets expensive: at Proud Mary three hours of free bar costs 349 kroner on top, more than the food itself. Aalborg Street Food does the opposite and folds free beer, wine and water from 6pm to 1am into its 849. Add Proud Mary's food and three hours of bar and you land on 599 for three hours; Street Food gives seven hours for 849. So ask for the total and for how many hours the bar runs, not for the cover price.
Duus Vinkælder — the buffet, and the only one with a children's price
Duus Vinkælder, Østerågade 9. The vaults beneath Jens Bang's House from 1624 are the oldest place to eat in the city in every sense, and the Christmas lunch is a traditional Christmas buffet — help yourself, not a served menu. On the table: fried herring with onion rings, marinated herring with curry salad, spiced herring with capers, egg with mayonnaise and caviar, prawns, fresh-smoked salmon with asparagus, plaice fillet with remoulade, liver pâté with bacon and mushrooms, fried Christmas medisterpølse and meatballs, pork rib roast and duck breast with red cabbage, glazed ham, curly kale with caramelised potatoes, a cheese board and risalamande with warm cherry sauce. All of it made in the house to its own recipes.
The price follows both the day and the hour, and it is worth doing the sum:
| Lunch 12-3pm | Evening 6.30-9pm | |
|---|---|---|
| Monday-Thursday | 269 kr | 299 kr |
| Friday-Sunday | 339 kr | 399 kr |
Children under 12 eat for 98 kroner. It is the only children's price on a Christmas menu in any of the four cities we have covered — Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense have none. If the Christmas lunch is with the family rather than with colleagues, this is where the arithmetic works.
The buffet runs from 13 November. On six evenings Thomas Blum plays live with guitar and song and leads the singing: 27 and 28 November, 4 and 5 December, and 11 and 12 December. If you want music with it, you have to pick one of the six. A free bar can be added.
Day to day the house is open Monday and Tuesday until 8pm, Wednesday and Thursday until 9, and later at the weekend.
Proud Mary — the cheapest, and the one with a dance floor
Proud Mary, Jomfru Ane Gade 6. The country's best-known drinking street does not have many Christmas menus, but this pub has one, and it is the cheapest in the city: the classic Christmas lunch is 250 kroner per person. It is served and complete — marinated herring fillets with capers, red onion and curry salad, creamy chicken salad with asparagus and bacon, fried fish fillet with remoulade, boiled halved eggs with large prawns, rye bread; then slow-braised Danish pork with crackling on the side, pan-fried meatballs with pickled red cabbage, Christmas-marinated duck breast, glazed potatoes, Christmas gravy and two salads; and risalamande with toasted almonds and cherry sauce at the end.
The drinks decide the price. A free bar with the house's beer, wine, water and spirits costs 349 kroner for three hours or 649 for the whole night — and the draught is free from every tap. Snaps is bought by the bottle: 450 kroner for one, 800 for two, 1,000 for three. Add the food and three hours of bar together and you land at 599 kroner, which is the figure the house itself gives as its starting price.
When the food is gone they turn the music up, and there is a dance floor. But check the time before you plan the whole evening here: the pub closes at 23.00 Monday to Thursday and at 2am on Friday and Saturday. If the party needs to move on, Black Swan is on the same street and open until 3. It is the right address if the Christmas lunch is really about the party, and the wrong one if anybody wants to be able to talk.
Aalborg Street Food — when nobody can agree
Aalborg Street Food, Skudehavnsvej 35. The old factory hall out by Skudehavnen holds Christmas lunches for companies and private parties alike, and the house offers two kinds of room: the raw street food hall, or Mystique, a more enclosed space in art deco. There are activities for the evening on top of the food.
The house does publish a price, and it was not there when this guide was written: 849 kroner per person in the event hall. That buys the party free beer, wine and water from 6pm to 1am, a Christmas menu in either a classic or a street food version with risalamande to finish, white linen and decoration, sound and AV equipment, waiting staff and the clearing up afterwards. The package needs at least 50 guests and takes up to 180, so it is for the company, not for the eight of you from the office.
The add-ons are published too: a free spirits bar from 9pm to 1am is another 100 kroner per person, a welcome drink 50, late-night food from the house's own pizzeria 85, a DJ 3,500 and live music from 10,000. For a smaller party the house has four smaller rooms — the cocktail bar Mystique for 65, Rust with shuffleboard and arcade games for 60, the hidden bar Rabbithole for 50 — and the whole food hall can be hired for up to 1,750.
What it solves is the group with three vegetarians and one who will not eat fish: nobody has to agree on one menu. Day to day the hall is open Friday from 5pm, Saturday and Sunday from 11.30am — but it closes for the winter on 14 December, so a Christmas lunch after that date is a closed arrangement rather than a visit to the open hall. The house states itself that private and company events can be placed outside normal opening hours.
Three with a Christmas lunch but no published price
All three mention a Christmas lunch or Christmas menu in their own navigation, but the page behind the link gave us no figures on 4 October. Call them if they sound right — we do not write a price we have not seen.
Fusion, Strandvejen 4. The city's omakase restaurant has "Events & Julefrokost" in its own menu and private rooms beside the restaurant. It is the most ambitious December dinner the city can offer, and the only one with an Asian kitchen. Open Monday to Thursday from 5pm, Friday and Saturday for lunch as well.
Nørregade 25, Nørregade 25. The house writes "Julemenu 2026 — from 3/11" on its front page, but the menu itself was not up. That is the earliest Christmas start in the city. Open Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 9pm.
Mortens Kro, Mølleå 2. The city's flagship for decades takes private parties but has no Christmas menu up. It is where you book when the December dinner is meant to be an occasion rather than a party. Open Tuesday to Sunday, and the kitchen runs longest of them all — until 2am.
Where else we would gather a party
Four addresses without a Christmas menu, but where the room and the kitchen can carry a party in December. Call and ask — most take groups, but they are the ones who get to say so, not us.
Struktur, C.W. Obels Plads 16. One of the few places in Aalborg where lunch is as considered as dinner, and where a party can sit all afternoon. Open until 11.30pm, and 12.30am at the weekend.
Hos Isidor Henius, Slotsgade 33. Named after the man behind the akvavit, which is hard to avoid in December. Open Thursday to Saturday until 9pm.
Restaurant Emil, Østre Havnegade 43. Evenings only, Tuesday to Saturday, out by the harbour. The quiet version.
OmBord, Bådehavnsvej 16A. Tables facing the water at Vestre Bådehavn marina, open until midnight Friday and Saturday. Furthest from the centre and therefore the one where the party actually stays put.
Where you go afterwards
Jomfru Ane Gade is where it is, but the city's best late addresses are not necessarily on it.
Sylvius Ginbar, Algade 59. More than eighty kinds of gin, open Thursday until 11pm and Friday-Saturday until 1am. The city's only gin bar.
Douro Wine Bar, Danmarksgade 49. Open until midnight Thursday to Saturday. The one to pick if the party would rather sit down.
Basement Beer Bar, Løkkegade 18. The cellar with the craft beer, open until midnight on Thursday and later at the weekend.
Black Swan, Jomfru Ane Gade 12. A late bar on the street itself, open Thursday to Saturday until 3am. This is where the evening ends if it is going to end on the street.

Questions and answers
What does a julefrokost cost in Aalborg?
From 250 kroner per person, and that is the lowest starting price in any of the four cities we have covered — Odense begins at 298 and Copenhagen at 365. Proud Mary has the 250 for a served classic Christmas lunch, and Duus Vinkælder has its Christmas buffet from 269 kroner at lunch Monday to Thursday. The most expensive combination in the city is Duus on a Friday to Sunday evening at 399.
But the food is only half of it. At Proud Mary three hours of free bar costs 349 kroner on top — more than the food — and the whole night 649. A bottle of snaps is 450. Add the food and three hours of bar and you land at 599, which is what the house itself calls its starting price. Always ask for the total.
Is there a buffet julefrokost in Aalborg?
Yes, Duus Vinkælder. The traditional Christmas buffet in the vaults beneath Jens Bang's House is help-yourself, and it runs from 13 November. The price follows the day: 269 kroner at lunch Monday to Thursday, 299 in the evening, 339 and 399 at the weekend. Aalborg Street Food is self-service day to day, where each guest fetches from the stalls — but the company package in the event hall is a different thing: it has a Christmas menu in either a classic or a street food version with risalamande, and it is served rather than help-yourself. If you want help-yourself with herring and shared platters, Duus is still the one address in the city.
Can you bring children to a julefrokost in Aalborg?
Duus Vinkælder charges 98 kroner for children under 12. It is the only children's price on a Christmas menu in any of the four cities — Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense have none. The buffet format helps too: children can fetch what they like instead of being served nine courses they will not eat. Lunch from noon is the obvious slot.
Where is there a julefrokost with music in Aalborg?
Duus Vinkælder has live music on six evenings, and they are named: 27 and 28 November, 4 and 5 December, and 11 and 12 December. Thomas Blum plays guitar and sings, adapting to the evening — atmospheric during dinner and communal singing afterwards. If you want music, you have to book one of the six dates.
If it should be a dance floor rather than communal singing, Proud Mary at Jomfru Ane Gade 6 is the answer. They turn the music up once the food is gone, and the pub is open until 2am on Friday and Saturday — and only until 23.00 Monday to Thursday, which is worth knowing if the Christmas lunch falls on a weekday.
When should you book a julefrokost in Aalborg?
Duus Vinkælder's six music evenings are the first to fill, and they all fall in late November and early December. The buffet without music can usually be had at shorter notice, and lunch Monday to Thursday is the easiest slot to get — it is also the cheapest. If you are a large party, the season really starts on 3 November, which is the earliest date any of the houses names.
Can you eat out on Christmas Eve, 24 December, in Aalborg?
None of the three Christmas menus says anything about Christmas Eve, and we have not found a Christmas Eve menu at any of them. That does not mean the city is shut — but it does mean none of them sells it as part of the Christmas menu.
The opening times we show are the houses' ordinary weekly ones and do not apply on public holidays. Call and ask about the 24th specifically. A Christmas Eve dinner is in any case a different product from a julefrokost: a standalone menu on the day itself, often with a single seating and payment in advance, usually announced only in November.
What about vegetarians and people who will not eat herring?
Say so when you book, not at the table. The buffet at Duus makes it easiest of the three, because each guest chooses — curly kale, the cheese board, eggs and fresh fruit are there regardless. Aalborg Street Food solves it entirely, because everyone fetches from their own stall. The served menu at Proud Mary is fixed, so there the kitchen needs notice in advance.
How this list was made
Fourteen places, divided by what kind of day you are after. Three of them have published a 2026 Christmas menu with prices, and the figures, dates and times are copied verbatim from their own pages on 4 October 2026 — Aalborg Street Food's on 10 October: Proud Mary, Duus Vinkælder and Aalborg Street Food.
Three have the Christmas lunch in their own navigation without figures we could see — Fusion, Nørregade 25 and Mortens Kro — and it says so at each of them. The rest are our own recommendation based on the kitchen and the room, not a Christmas menu we have seen.
The comparison with Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense draws on the other three Christmas lunch guides on this site, where the prices were collected by the same method in September and October 2026. The opening hours are the houses' ordinary weekly times and do not apply on public holidays. There are no Michelin restaurants on the list, and each house appears once. Call before you book — and call rather than write when the party is more than eight.
