About restaurants in Aalborg
Finding a restaurant in Aalborg is easier than the size of the city suggests. The eighteen places here fall into four kinds: the expensive evening, the fish restaurants by the water, the French bistros, and the everyday addresses you use without planning it. Nothing is far from anything — the centre can be crossed in a quarter of an hour on foot.
Mortens Kro by Mølleå is the table people book for the occasion that matters, and the most expensive in the selection. Fusion on Strandvejen hands the menu over to the kitchen and has few seats, so book ahead. Struktur on C.W. Obels Plads serves lunch in the same class as dinner and keeps the bar going past midnight on Friday and Saturday.
Fish has three addresses. Restaurant Emil on Østre Havnegade cooks evenings only, Tuesday to Saturday, and has few tables. OmBord at the Vestre Bådehavn marina has seats facing the water and stays open until midnight on Friday and Saturday. Fisk og Skaldyr on Bispensgade is the unusual one: open all seven days from half past eleven, with no need to book weeks ahead.
The rest is Danish and French. Hos Isidor Henius on Slotsgade has aquavit on the list and sits in the old distillery quarter, Nørregade 25 cooks Danish food Tuesday to Saturday with no afternoon break, and Bistro 59 on Ågade keeps the French shape of lunch, pause and dinner. An Di on Boulevarden is the most useful weekday restaurant in town — Vietnamese, open ten to nine every day. Check the day before you go: Sunday and Monday are dark in many kitchens.
