Finding a restaurant in Aalborg takes less planning than in Denmark's other large cities. The 18 restaurants in Aalborg below sit, with few exceptions, within a fifteen-minute walk of Nytorv, and the exceptions are the ones by the water: Fusion on Strandvejen, Emil on Østre Havn, OmBord at the western boat harbour and Lille Nyhavn in Strandgade on the north side of the fjord.

Three numbers describe the field. None of the 18 sits at price level 1 — eight are level 2, eight level 3, and only two, Mortens Kro and Fusion, level 4 of 4. Four open every day of the week. Eight stay open until midnight or later on Friday and Saturday. Monday and Sunday are the weak days: nine open on Mondays and only seven on Sundays.

The order follows our editorial score, best first, with address and opening hours in full. For the whole list with a map and a live "open now" filter: restaurants in Aalborg →.

The middle column is the one that matters. Nine of the eighteen are closed on Mondays and eleven are closed on Sundays — and they are not the same places. If you are eating out on a Monday evening in Aalborg, the field is halved before you have even chosen a kitchen.

Four open all seven days: Hos Isidor Henius at Slotsgade 33, An Di at Boulevarden 12, OmBord at Bådehavnsvej 16A and Fisk og Skaldyr at Bispensgade 31C. Those are the ones you can count on without checking.

And none of the eighteen sits at price level 1. Aalborg has cheap food, but it is in street food and the cafés, not the restaurants — see street food in Aalborg.

1. Mortens Kro, Mølleå

Mølleå 2. The city's flagship for decades and still the table people book for the important occasion. Regional cooking, professional service without stiffness, à la carte and menus, hotel rooms upstairs and a long wine card. Price level 4 of 4 — the highest in Aalborg.

Open Tuesday to Sunday from eleven until two in the morning, closed Monday. For a birthday or the evening where the bill is not counted. Book well ahead at weekends.

2. Fusion, Strandvejen

Strandvejen 4. Asian omakase: you hand the menu to the kitchen. The produce is organic, and the room is small enough to follow the work. You say what you do not eat and they handle the rest. Price level 4 of 4.

Open Monday to Thursday from five to eleven. Friday and Saturday there is lunch from twelve to three and dinner from half past five to midnight. Closed Sunday. Few seats, so book ahead.

3. Duus Vinkælder, Østerågade

Østerågade 9. The cellar beneath Jens Bang's Stone House has poured wine since 1624, and the vaults are why no other address in the city can do the same. Open sandwiches and classic Danish dishes at lunch and dinner, and you can come for a glass alone. Price level 2 of 4.

Open Monday and Tuesday from eleven to eight, Wednesday and Thursday until nine, Friday until half past nine and Saturday from ten to half past nine. Closed Sunday. Seats outside.

4. Struktur, C.W. Obels Plads

C.W. Obels Plads 16. One of the few places here where lunch is as accomplished as dinner. Regional cooking, cocktails and wine thought through, and a room made by someone who took trouble. Price level 3 of 4.

Open Monday to Saturday with lunch from half past eleven, last arrival at three, and dinner from five, last arrival at nine and half past nine on Friday and Saturday. The bar stays open after the kitchen: until half past eleven Monday to Thursday and half past midnight Friday and Saturday. Closed Sunday.

5. Restaurant Emil, Østre Havn

Østre Havnegade 43. Fish as the whole foundation. The kitchen serves a set menu rather than a long card, and the fish changes with the season and the catch. A wine list and private dining for smaller groups. Price level 3 of 4.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from five to half past eleven, last orders at nine. Closed Sunday and Monday. Thirty-two and a half hours a week is the shortest opening in the guide, so book ahead.

6. Nørregade 25, Nørregade

Nørregade 25. The address is the whole name, and the food is Danish by the season. The card is short, and the kitchen changes it when the produce changes. Price level 3 of 4.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from twelve to nine without a break, closed Sunday and Monday. The unbroken service is the point: a late lunch at three or an early dinner at five, same room.

7. Hos Isidor Henius, Slotsgade

Slotsgade 33. Named after the man behind Aalborg Akvavit, and the register matches: classic, solid, with snaps on the card. Open sandwiches at lunch, warm dishes in the evening, Danish throughout. Seats outside in summer. Price level 3 of 4.

Open Monday to Wednesday from half past eleven to five, Thursday to Saturday until nine and Sunday until five. Lunch every day, dinner only from Thursday — remember that before agreeing to meet at seven on a Tuesday.

8. Bistro 59, Kærby

Ågade 16. French bistro food in the classic form, properly executed. The card is the French repertoire — starter, main, cheese — cooked without embellishment. Portions by French measure. Price level 3 of 4.

Open Tuesday to Saturday with lunch from twelve to three and dinner from five to ten, closed Sunday and Monday. The afternoon break catches out anyone arriving at four. Kærby is south of the centre.

9. An Di, Boulevarden

Boulevarden 12. Vietnamese food in the middle of town. Neither expensive nor decorated, but the soup is right, and that is why there is a queue at lunchtime. The card sticks to phở, noodles and a few fresh dishes. Takeaway. Price level 2 of 4.

Open all seven days from ten in the morning to nine at night. The most useful everyday restaurant in town — a hurried lunch or dinner taken home.

10. Pingvin, Stjernepladsen

Stjernepladsen 3C. Small plates and a wine list that was chosen rather than bought in. The dishes are built to be shared, and the card changes — as much a wine bar with food as a restaurant. Price level 3 of 4.

Open Tuesday to Thursday from five to ten and Friday and Saturday from eleven in the morning to midnight. Closed Sunday and Monday. Stjernepladsen is outside the busiest part of town and rarely full before seven.

11. OmBord, Vestre Bådehavn

Bådehavnsvej 16A. Fish and shellfish with the water just outside. Lunch and dinner without a break, and the card follows what has been landed. The tables facing the boat harbour are what people come for. Price level 3 of 4.

Open every day from half past eleven. Sunday to Thursday they close at ten, Friday and Saturday at midnight. Bådehavnsvej is west of the centre, a fifteen-minute walk along the harbour.

12. Nede Paa Jorden, Nørregade

Nørregade 6. Equal parts bar and small kitchen, French in outlook. The wine list is the axis of the house, and the food follows it: cheese, charcuterie and a couple of warm dishes. The courtyard fills as soon as the sun clears the rooftops. Price level 2 of 4.

Open Tuesday and Wednesday from two to ten, Thursday until eleven, Friday until midnight and Saturday from one until midnight. Closed Sunday and Monday. Nothing starts before one — not a lunch address.

13. Lille Nyhavn, Strandgade

Strandgade 6, 9400. Watch the postcode: this address is in Nørresundby on the north side of the fjord. The kitchen serves Danish lunch — open sandwiches, fish and a snaps for those who want one. Set menus for larger tables, takeaway and booking. Price level 2 of 4.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from half past eleven to half past eight, with the kitchen closing at half past seven. Closed Sunday and Monday. Three generations can sit at the same table here and everyone is happy.

14. Provence, Indre By

Ved Stranden 11E. Southern French in register and weighted towards the simple. Lunch is one of the better ones in the city for the price, and that is no accident: the place is built for people who work in the centre. Price level 2 of 4.

Open Monday to Friday from eleven to ten, closed entirely at the weekend. Cross it off for a Saturday — but there is usually a table free on a Tuesday.

15. Bistro Dejavú, Ved Stranden

Ved Stranden 7B. French bistro food in the old quarter. The card is the classic one: what you expect from a bistro and not much more. Terrine, fish, meat and sauce, and portions enough to fill you. Price level 2 of 4.

Open Wednesday to Saturday from twelve to ten and Sunday for dinner only from half past five to nine. Closed Monday and Tuesday — more closing days than anywhere else here.

16. Brasserie Kunsten, Kunsten

Kong Christians Allé 50. Inside Kunsten, the museum Alvar Aalto designed in the 1950s: marble, light from above, lines that were thought through. The card is lunch at the lighter end — open sandwiches, salads, cake. No museum ticket needed. Price level 2 of 4.

Open Tuesday to Friday from nine to five and Saturday and Sunday from ten to five, closed Monday. The only address here closing at five every day: no dinner.

17. Fisk og Skaldyr, Indre By

Bispensgade 31C. The name is the menu. The card covers the poached, the fried and the raw, with shellfish in season. An ordinary fish restaurant rather than a gourmet one, and the price follows. Price level 3 of 4.

Open all seven days: Monday to Thursday from half past eleven to half past ten and Friday to Sunday until midnight. Of the three fish addresses, it is the one open when the other two are not.

18. Det Tredje Sted, Indre By

Bispensgade 9. The name refers to the third place between home and work, and the room follows: space to sit for a long time and a regional card that runs from breakfast to dinner without changing register. Vegetarian dishes and seats outside. Price level 2 of 4.

Open Monday to Saturday from nine in the morning. Monday to Thursday until ten at night, Friday and Saturday until midnight. Closed Sunday. The house recommends booking a table.

For a Tuesday

Tuesday is the day most places are open and there is a table everywhere. An Di is the obvious choice if it is just about the food: ten to nine every day, price level 2 and takeaway. Provence is the other — French, eleven to ten, Monday to Friday. Nørregade 25 runs twelve to nine without a break, so five o'clock dinner is straightforward.

Avoid Bistro Dejavú, closed Monday and Tuesday, and note that Hos Isidor Henius does lunch only Monday to Wednesday.

When it has to be an occasion

Two addresses sit at price level 4 of 4, and they pull in different directions. Mortens Kro is the classic: menus, professional service and a long wine card, open until two in the morning Tuesday to Sunday. Fusion is the other — Asian omakase, organic produce and a kitchen that decides. Both have few seats, so book.

For an occasion without the price, Duus Vinkælder is the answer: price level 2 and four hundred years of vaulting. Restaurant Emil serves a set menu by the landing but opens only 32.5 hours a week, so plan.

Where you can sit late

Eight of the 18 stay open until midnight or later. Mortens Kro is the latest at two in the morning, Tuesday to Sunday. Struktur closes at half past midnight Friday and Saturday, and the bar carries on after the food. Fisk og Skaldyr and Det Tredje Sted run to midnight at weekends and both sit on Bispensgade. By the water, OmBord closes at midnight on Friday and Saturday, and Pingvin and Nede Paa Jorden do the same in town.

Questions and answers

What is the best restaurant in Aalborg?

Mortens Kro at Mølleå 2 sits at the top with the highest editorial score of the 18. The kitchen is regional, there is both à la carte and menus, and the price level is 4 of 4. For the most ambitious kitchen rather than the best-known one, Fusion at Strandvejen 4 and its Asian omakase is the other answer.

Which restaurants in Aalborg are open on Mondays?

Nine of the 18: Fusion, Duus Vinkælder, Struktur, Hos Isidor Henius, An Di, OmBord, Provence, Fisk og Skaldyr and Det Tredje Sted. Mortens Kro, Brasserie Kunsten, Restaurant Emil, Nørregade 25, Bistro 59, Pingvin, Nede Paa Jorden, Lille Nyhavn and Bistro Dejavú are closed.

Where can you eat late in Aalborg?

Mortens Kro is open until two in the morning Tuesday to Sunday and is the latest. Struktur closes at half past midnight Friday and Saturday. Fusion, Pingvin, OmBord, Nede Paa Jorden, Fisk og Skaldyr and Det Tredje Sted close at midnight on Friday and Saturday — Fisk og Skaldyr on Sunday too.

What does eating out in Aalborg cost?

None of the 18 sits at price level 1. Eight are at level 2: Duus Vinkælder, An Di, Nede Paa Jorden, Lille Nyhavn, Provence, Bistro Dejavú, Brasserie Kunsten and Det Tredje Sted. Eight are at level 3, and only Mortens Kro and Fusion at level 4 of 4.

Where is the best fish in Aalborg?

Three addresses take fish as their whole foundation. Restaurant Emil at Østre Havnegade 43 is the most ambitious: a set menu by the day's landing, evenings only Tuesday to Saturday. OmBord at Bådehavnsvej 16A sits by the western boat harbour with tables outside. Fisk og Skaldyr at Bispensgade 31C is the plainest and opens all seven days.

Which restaurants in Aalborg are by the harbour?

Four of the 18 sit on the water. Restaurant Emil at Østre Havnegade 43 is the fish restaurant on the eastern harbour, a few minutes' walk from the centre — dinner only, Tuesday to Saturday from five to ten. OmBord at Bådehavnsvej 16A is at the western boat harbour with tables outside facing the boats and opens every day from half past eleven. Fusion at Strandvejen 4 faces the fjord north of the centre and serves Asian omakase, closed Sunday. Lille Nyhavn at Strandgade 6 is across the fjord in Nørresundby and serves Danish lunch Tuesday to Saturday. On a Sunday, OmBord is the only one of the four that is open; on a Monday it is OmBord and Fusion.

Do you need to book a table in Aalborg?

At Mortens Kro, Fusion and Restaurant Emil, yes — all three have few seats or heavy weekend demand. Lille Nyhavn also takes bookings and has set menus for larger tables. Nørregade 25 can be booked, but you can turn up. For the rest, no reservation policy is stated.

Are there good restaurants outside central Aalborg?

Four of the 18. OmBord is at the western boat harbour, a fifteen-minute walk along the water. Lille Nyhavn is in Strandgade in Nørresundby across the fjord. Bistro 59 is in Kærby south of the centre, and Brasserie Kunsten at the museum through the park.

The order follows our editorial score, which weighs the kitchen, the produce and the craft. We leave out restaurants with a Michelin star — which is why neither Textur nor the two that gained stars in the 2026 guide appear here. Addresses, opening hours and price levels come from the venues' own information and were checked on 24 September 2026. Lille Nyhavn's and Det Tredje Sted's hours were checked again on 1 October 2026 against the venues' own pages.
