A julefrokost in Odense costs between 298 and 1,295 kroner per person, and the spread is not about quality — it is about what is included. We went through the venues' own pages on 4 October 2026, and seven of them have the Christmas menu up with prices. Those figures are below, copied verbatim. To see Odense held up against the other three cities, the comparison is in the nationwide julefrokost guide.
And Odense can do something Copenhagen cannot: the city has genuine Christmas buffets. When we did the same exercise in the capital, none of the ten Christmas menus was a buffet — everything was served menus or family style. In Odense three of the seven are help-yourself: Cafe Kræz, Eydes and Restaurant Nordatlanten. If your party needs to get up and fetch its own food, this is where it can be done.
The other difference is lunch. Two of the houses sell a Christmas platter at lunch that costs markedly less than the evening menu and can be booked for two people. It is the cheapest way to hold a proper julefrokost in Odense, and it gets overlooked because everyone is looking for an evening.
The seven Christmas menus — prices and dates
All figures copied from the houses' own pages on 4 October 2026. Prices are per person.
| Place | From | What it is | 2026 season |
|---|---|---|---|
| Den Gamle Kro | 298 kr | Christmas platter, lunch | from 2 Nov |
| Klosterkroen | 339 kr | Christmas platter, lunch | 1 Nov – 30 Dec |
| Cafe Kræz | 449 kr | buffet, Fri + Sat | 13 Nov – 19 Dec |
| Deilig | 495 kr | three courses, served | Nov + Dec |
| Oluf Bagers Gård | 625 kr | nine courses, social dining | Nov + Dec |
| Eydes | 949 kr | buffet with live music | ten fixed dates |
| Restaurant Nordatlanten | 1,100 kr | buffet, min. 30 people | not stated |
Look at the third column. The three most expensive are also the three where the drinks, the music or both are included. Compare the food alone and the whole field sits between 298 and 625 kroner.
We have not seen a Christmas menu from the other places on this list, so we do not claim one. Sortebro Kro and Mr. Torp both have "julebord" or "julefrokost" in their own navigation, but the page behind the link did not respond when we fetched it — call them if those two interest you.
The cheapest: julefrokost at lunch
Den Gamle Kro, Overgade 23. The Christmas platter is the cheapest Christmas menu in the city: 298 kroner at lunch with one tartlet, 328 in the evening with two. On the platter: marinated herring with onion, capers and curry salad, halved eggs, warm fish fillet with remoulade, warm pork rib roast with red cabbage, and rye bread. It can be ordered Sunday to Thursday all day and Friday-Saturday at lunch — so not on the two busiest evenings. For the large version, the Big Christmas Menu is 525 kroner with nine courses from herring to risalamande, and 995 with beer, wine and soft drinks ad libitum for six hours. Both bookable from 2 November. The inn is open Monday to Saturday from 11.30am to 9pm, Sunday from noon.
Klosterkroen, Lille Gråbrødrestræde 2. The Christmas platter is 339 kroner and is served Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 3pm, last order 2.30pm. It applies from two people and must be pre-ordered by 3pm the day before — which goes for all the inn's Christmas menus. In the evening there are two: the classic home-made Christmas menu at 429 kroner and the Supreme at 499, which adds pan-fried fish fillet and a tartlet with chicken in asparagus sauce. Drinks are an add-on: 299 kroner for two hours of beer, wine and soft drinks ad libitum, 99 for each hour after. The season runs from 1 November to 30 December, longer than any other Christmas menu in the city. Open Tuesday to Thursday noon to 10pm, Friday and Saturday until 11pm.
The buffets — where you help yourself
Cafe Kræz, Gråbrødre Plads 6. Christmas buffet at 449 kroner, or 749 with three hours of free beer, wine and soft drinks. On the table: marinated herring, egg and prawns, fried plaice, smoked salmon, confit duck with prunes, roast pork, Christmas medisterpølse, warm meatballs, two kinds of potato, two salads and risalamande with cherry sauce and almond croquant. It runs every Friday and Saturday evening from 13 November to 19 December, booked by email. If you cannot make December, they serve the same buffet as table service in January — the only one of the seven that offers that. The café is open until 1am, and until 3am Thursday to Saturday, so the party can stay put.
Eydes, Kongensgade 31A. This is the big night: Christmas buffet, free bar and live music on every date. Arrival between 5.30pm and 7pm — you pick the time when you book — the music starts around 10.30pm, there is dancing until about 1am, and the party ends at 2am. There are ten fixed dates: 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 November, and 4, 5, 11 and 12 December. The price follows the date and the package: 949 kroner on the first two, 1,149 on 21 and 28 November and 12 December, and 1,295 on 20 and 27 November and 4, 5 and 11 December. If you want a julefrokost with music and a dance floor in Odense, this is the address — and you will have to pick one of the ten days.
Restaurant Nordatlanten, Nordatlantisk Promenade 3 on the harbour. A traditional Christmas buffet at 1,100 kroner per cover, with the all-inclusive package running from 6pm to 1am. The most important figure here is a different one, though: you have to be at least 30 people to book all-inclusive. That makes it a departmental event rather than a dinner with friends. There is also a build-your-own version. The house sits in Nordatlantisk Hus by the water and is open until 11pm on weekdays.
The served menus
Deilig, H.C. Andersen Haven 3. Three courses at 495 kroner: a cold table to share with cherry-pickled herring, organic egg with hand-peeled prawns and breaded plaice — or cured salmon on the plate if you prefer — then duck breast with celeriac purée and port sauce, and a crisp tart with risalamande parfait for dessert. The menu runs through November and December, and drinks are ordered and paid for as you go. For the full thing, the Whole Christmas Package is 1,300 kroner per cover: sparkling wine, the chef's snacks, a free bar for five hours, three drinks after dinner, coffee, tea and petits fours. Late-night food is 85 kroner on top. The café sits in the middle of the H.C. Andersen garden and serves evenings on Friday and Saturday.
Oluf Bagers Gård, Nørregade 29. The finest room in the city — one of Odense's oldest buildings, with a cobbled courtyard — and a Christmas menu that is deliberately not classic Christmas food. Nine courses served in three rounds as social dining, meaning platters you reach across for: charcuterie, lobster bisque, cold-smoked salmon, baked carrots, herb-baked haddock, brined duck breast, Morbier with apple chutney, churros and chocolate brownie. 625 kroner Monday to Thursday from 5.30pm to 10pm with a welcome drink, two glasses of wine, water and coffee, and 995 Friday and Saturday from 5.30pm to 11pm, where beer, water and wine are ad libitum until 11. There is room for between 2 and 68 people in the same space, and if you are fewer than nine you can book directly online. On selected Saturdays in November and December the house also serves its Great Classic Christmas Table at lunch — the traditional version, if nine courses with lobster bisque sounds wrong.
Where the city eats lunch the rest of the year
Four places without a Christmas menu, but where we would gather a party in December judging by what the kitchen does the rest of the year. Call and ask — most take groups, but they are the ones who get to say so, not us.
Kong Volmer, Brandts Passage 31. The city's smørrebrød address, open Monday to Friday from 11am to 4pm and Saturday from 10. It is a lunch restaurant in the literal sense, and it closes at four — a julefrokost here is a lunch, not an evening.
Sortebro Kro, Sejerskovvej 20B in Den Fynske Landsby. The inn has "Julebord 2026" in its own navigation, but the page behind the link did not answer on 4 October, so we have no prices. The setting is the most atmospheric in Odense, though: an old inn in the middle of the open-air museum. Open noon to 4pm and 5.30pm to midnight, Sunday lunch only.
Storms Pakhus, Lerchesgade 4. The city's street food hall behind the station. No Christmas spread and no shared menu, but for a party of fifteen with three vegetarians and one who will not eat fish, it is far less trouble than a fixed menu. No reservations.
Carlsens Kvarter, Hunderupvej 19. The beer bar with the widest range of taps in the city. Not a julefrokost, but the right second half — open until 1am Monday to Saturday.
Where you go afterwards
A julefrokost in Odense usually finishes before the evening does. Four addresses that solve it, all within a ten-minute walk of Gråbrødre.
Lalou Vinbar, Klaregade 3. Open Tuesday to Thursday until 11pm, Friday and Saturday until 1am. The quietest of the four.
Jazzhus Dexter, Vindegade 65. Live music and concerts, open Wednesday and Thursday until midnight, Friday and Saturday from 1pm to 1am. If the party would rather listen to something than shout over each other, this is it.
Bar Rar, Dronningensgade 2B. Open until 3am Friday and Saturday, until 2am on Thursday. The late one.
Cafe Kræz again, Gråbrødre Plads 6 — if the julefrokost was already there, you can simply stay until 3am Thursday to Saturday.

Questions and answers
What does a julefrokost cost in Odense?
Between 298 and 1,295 kroner per person at the seven places that have published a 2026 Christmas menu. Cheapest is Den Gamle Kro's lunch platter at 298 kroner, dearest is Eydes on its five big dates at 1,295, where buffet, free bar and live music are included. Looking at the food alone, the whole field sits between 298 and 625 kroner — the rest is drinks and entertainment. So always ask what is included before you book: at Klosterkroen two hours of free bar costs 299 kroner on top, at Deilig the full package is 1,300 against 495 for the food alone.
Is there a buffet julefrokost in Odense?
Yes, three of the seven. Cafe Kræz has a Christmas buffet on Friday and Saturday evenings from 449 kroner, Eydes has a buffet with live music on ten fixed dates from 949, and Restaurant Nordatlanten has a traditional Christmas buffet at 1,100 kroner per cover — but only from 30 people. It is worth knowing because it differs from Copenhagen: when we went through the ten Copenhagen Christmas menus, none of them was a buffet. If your party wants to get up and help themselves, Odense is the easier city for it.
Where can you hold a julefrokost with music in Odense?
Eydes at Kongensgade 31A, and there is live music on all ten dates. The music starts around 10.30pm, there is dancing until about 1am, and the party ends at 2am. Arrival is between 5.30 and 7pm, and you pick the time when you book. If you would rather listen to the music than dance to it, Jazzhus Dexter at Vindegade 65 has concerts, but no Christmas menu — that is somewhere to go afterwards, not a julefrokost.
Can you get a julefrokost to take away in Odense?
Oluf Bagers Gård sells classic Christmas food to take away for Christmas Eve, and it is the only one of the seven with a takeaway Christmas menu. It costs 395 kroner per person, is collected on 24 December, and must be ordered by the 21st. It is intended for at least four people. The other six Christmas menus are for eating in. Several of the city's bakeries do takeaway all year, but that is not the same as a julebord, and we will not write that someone delivers one until we can see it on their own site.
Can you eat out on Christmas Eve, 24 December, in Odense?
Two of the seven say something concrete about the day, and they say different things. Oluf Bagers Gård sells Christmas food to take away on the 24th, ordered by the 21st. Den Gamle Kro has a Christmas Eve menu on its own site. Deilig, by contrast, is closed on 24, 25 and 31 December and opens extra on the 28th from 10am to 4pm.
The other four say nothing about the holidays, and the opening times we show are the ordinary weekly ones — they do not apply on the 24th. Call and ask about that day specifically. A Christmas Eve dinner is in any case a different product from a julefrokost: a standalone menu on the day itself, often with a single seating and payment in advance.
How many people do you need to be?
It varies more in Odense than in the other cities. Restaurant Nordatlanten requires at least 30 people for its all-inclusive package, which makes it a departmental event. At the other end, Klosterkroen's Christmas platter applies from two people, and Oluf Bagers Gård takes from 2 to 68 in the same room — if you are fewer than nine you can book directly online instead of writing. Cafe Kræz and Deilig do not state a minimum, but both book by email or phone.
When should you book a julefrokost in Odense?
Now, if it has to be a Friday or Saturday in December. Eydes has only ten dates in the whole season, and the two cheapest are already on 13 and 14 November. Cafe Kræz's buffet runs only on Fridays and Saturdays between 13 November and 19 December — eleven evenings in all. Klosterkroen is the most flexible, with the whole period from 1 November to 30 December — but everything must be pre-ordered by 3pm the day before. If there are just two of you at lunch, you can usually get a table at a couple of days' notice.
How this list was made
Eleven places, divided by what kind of julefrokost it is. Seven of them have published a 2026 Christmas menu themselves, and prices, dates, minimum party sizes and times are copied verbatim from their own pages on 4 October 2026: Den Gamle Kro, Klosterkroen, Cafe Kræz, Deilig, Oluf Bagers Gård, Eydes and Restaurant Nordatlanten. Sortebro Kro and Mr. Torp have the Christmas menu in their own navigation, but the page behind the link did not answer, and we do not write a price we have not seen. The rest are our own recommendation based on the kitchen and the room, not a Christmas menu we have seen.
The opening hours are the houses' ordinary weekly times and do not apply on public holidays. Prices and dates are for the 2026 season and will need rechecking next year. There are no Michelin restaurants on the list, and each house appears once. December hours almost always differ from the normal ones, so call before you book — and call rather than write when the party is more than eight.
