Sushi in Copenhagen costs either 189 kroner or 945, and there is surprisingly little in between. The city runs two business models rather than one market: all-you-can-eat, where you pay a flat price and order freely, and omakase, where the kitchen decides everything and the bill follows. That division, not the freshness of the fish, is what tells you where to go. The fish is fresh at both ends.
Below are nine addresses, ranked by craft. Prices and hours come from the venues' own menus and contact pages, checked in September 2026. Four names that show up on other lists do not exist at all — they are at the bottom, so you do not waste an evening looking for them.
The nine, in short
| Place | Neighbourhood | What dinner costs | Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Damindra | Frederiksstaden | 585-945 kr. | Omakase, Japanese-Sri Lankan |
| Kinyōbi | Indre By | 230-650 kr. | Omakase and charcoal grill |
| Sticks'n'Sushi Nansensgade | Nørrevold | 375-525 kr. | À la carte and set menus |
| Jah Izakaya | Vesterbro | 45-495 kr. | Izakaya, sashimi but no nigiri |
| Sushi Lovers | Torvehallerne | 99-178 kr. | Market stall, takeaway |
| Nozomi | Indre By | 269-289 kr. | All you can eat |
| Takii | Nørrebro | 189-239 kr. | All you can eat, lunch and dinner |
| Sushi Factory | Amager | 239-259 kr. | All you can eat |
| Hana Sushi | Sydhavn | 169-259 kr. | Takeaway |
1. Damindra, Frederiksstaden
Sankt Annæ Plads 16, 1250 Copenhagen K. Tuesday to Saturday: lunch 12.15-14, dinner 17-22. Closed Monday and Sunday. Last table booked at 21.30. Phone +45 27 58 08 46.
Damindra is the best sushi in the city that does not hold a Michelin star, and that is a description rather than a consolation prize. The restaurant is owned by Damindra Tillekeratne, and the kitchen describes itself as Japanese tradition with Sri Lankan roots and a Nordic expression. Three head chefs run it: Hirokosan, Matchikosan and Taka Nishimura.
The thing to know before you book: à la carte is served at lunch only. In the evening it is set menus, and there is no way around it. Lunch starts at 298 kroner for a bento box, individual dishes run 180 to 398, and the lunch omakase is 485 kroner per person. In the evening the menu begins at 585 and tops out with omakase at 945.
If you want to eat here without committing a whole evening, come at lunch. It is also the only service where children are welcome — the restaurant says so on its own menu page.
Two practical things you will not find elsewhere: the house does not accept Amex or Diners, and foreign credit cards carry a fee. And the restaurant has moved. The old Holbergsgade address still turns up across half the internet, phone number included. The front page states plainly that they are now on Sankt Annæ Plads.
2. Kinyōbi, Indre By
Antonigade 2, 1106 Copenhagen K. Open daily from 17. Sunday to Wednesday until midnight, Thursday until 1, Friday and Saturday until 2. Phone +45 48 80 60 80.
Kinyōbi is not a sushi restaurant that acquired a sound system. It is a Japanese listening bar that also does excellent sushi, and the order matters because it explains the rest: a vinyl DJ, a custom-built hi-fi rig, and a bar that runs until 2 at weekends. Alongside the sushi and sashimi sits a charcoal grill with Iberico presa, A3 wagyu and yellowtail collar.
The House Nigiri Selection is 230 kroner, the sashimi selection 235, and the Kinyōbi Omakase 650 kroner per person. Single pieces of toro — the fatty cut of bluefin — are 115 kroner each. Grilled edamame 45. A 200-gram Spanish sirloin is 395.
Read the door policy before you drive over. The venue states that a reservation does not in itself grant entry, and that they weigh "positive attitude, presentable appearance, guest loyalty, clothing (casual but smart) and prior history". That is not a sentence you usually find on a pizzeria's website, and it should be taken at face value.
There is no lunch service. First seating is at 17.
3. Sticks'n'Sushi Nansensgade, Nørrevold
Nansensgade 59, 1366 Copenhagen K. Open daily from 11. Sunday to Thursday until 22.30, Friday and Saturday until 23. The kitchen closes an hour earlier — 21.30 Sun-Thu, 22 Fri-Sat. Phone +45 33 11 14 07.
This is the original. Sticks'n'Sushi opened on Nansensgade in 1994 in a small basement, started by Jens and Kim Rahbek together with Thor Andersen, and the chain now runs restaurants in Germany, England and Scotland. Nansensgade is still where the concept makes most sense: a street that does not look like the rest of Indre By, and a terrace out front when the weather allows.
Salmon nigiri is 32 kroner a piece, 58 for two. Gyoza 135. Sashimi Deluxe 299. Set menus are 375, 435 and 525 kroner per person with a two-person minimum, and a "Four Meal Drive" is 999. There is no omakase — the menu runs à la carte at the front and set menus at the back, and that is the whole offer.
Booking goes through OpenTable, and there is takeaway for both collection and delivery.
A warning about the address: the chain's site footer says Nansensgade 49. That is the registered address of Sticks'n'Sushi A/S, not the restaurant. The restaurant is at number 59.
4. Jah Izakaya & Sake Bar, Vesterbro
Gasværksvej 21, 1656 Copenhagen V. Open daily from 17.30. Sunday to Thursday until midnight, Friday and Saturday until 1. Last food order at 22 every day. Phone +45 38 41 27 21.
Jah is here even though it is not a sushi restaurant, and that is deliberate. It is an izakaya — a Japanese gastropub — and there is sashimi on the menu but no nigiri section. If you came for a sushi menu, you are in the wrong place. If you came for the best Japanese kitchen in Vesterbro, you are in the right one.
The room used to be Omonim, one of Copenhagen's first Japanese restaurants, which closed in 2016 when the original owners retired. Ulla Inoue, daughter of Omonim's owners, took it over with her husband Satoru and two friends. The head chef is Gentaro Kimura from Kyushu.
Edamame is 45 kroner, gyoza 110, Tori no Karaage 145, sashimi 210 and gyukatsu 220. An omakase tasting menu is 495 kroner per person with a two-person minimum. Sake tasting 220. Sake by the glass runs 60 to 95 kroner, and there is shōchū, Japanese whisky and natural wine from small producers.
Dishes arrive in whatever order they are ready, and the house recommends three to five plates per person to share. They brew their own beer, Jah Beer, a pale ale with yuzu and Japanese hops made with Beer Here and Penyllan Brewery on Bornholm. Reggae on the speakers is part of the concept.
Bookings go through bordibyen.dk. The sister venue, Posh Jah, is in the City.
5. Sushi Lovers, Torvehallerne
Rømersgade 18, stall G10, 1362 Copenhagen K. Monday to Thursday 11.30-20, Friday until 21, Saturday until 20, Sunday until 19.
This is the best place in the city to eat proper sushi without setting aside an evening. The stall sits inside Torvehallerne, the price is manageable, and the quality is higher than the format suggests: the menu carries a separate section of nigiri from the house's World Sushi Cup entry, and a mini tasting of four of them costs 139 kroner.
Salmon nigiri is 28 kroner a piece, 52 for two. The "Lovers regular" with fourteen pieces is 178. A Rainbow special roll 142, a California uramaki 99.
The house also runs sushi courses and sells menu gift cards — a business of its own rather than a sideline. There are four branches: Torvehallerne, Charlottenlund, Frederiksberg Centeret and Waterfront in Hellerup. We include only one.
One caveat about the phone number: their own sources disagree. The contact page lists +45 92 90 09 96 for all four branches, while the menu PDF gives +45 53 50 50 04 for Torvehallerne. Call the central number.
6. Nozomi, Indre By
Store Kongensgade 60, 1264 Copenhagen K. Open daily 12-22. Phone +45 33 25 30 30.
Nozomi is the best all-you-can-eat in Indre By and the only place on this list open ten hours straight, every day of the year. That makes it the answer to a question the expensive addresses cannot handle: where do you eat sushi at three in the afternoon on a Tuesday.
All you can eat is 269 kroner Monday to Thursday and 289 Friday to Sunday. Children under twelve 149. There is lunch sushi and delivery, and a second branch on Martha Christensens Vej in Ørestad.
7. Takii Sushi Bar, Nørrebro
Jagtvej 113, 2200 Copenhagen N. Open Monday 15 to 22, Tuesday to Sunday 13 to 22. Last order at 21.45. Phone +45 38 86 66 66.
Takii is the cheapest all-you-can-eat in the city, and that is not a rounding error: lunch costs 189 kroner Tuesday to Thursday, fifty kroner below Sushi Factory and eighty below Nozomi. Evening all-you-can-eat is 219 kroner Monday to Thursday and 239 Friday to Sunday. The lunch price runs Tuesday to Sunday from 13 to 16, and the house is explicit that the meal has to be finished by 16.00 for the price to hold — carry on past that and you move to the evening price.
All the sushi is made in the open kitchen, and cake and ice cream are included, usually one variety of each per day. Children under three eat free, three to ten pay 119 kroner, and from eleven the adult price applies. Water is 19 kroner per person with free refills.
Two rules are worth knowing before you sit down: evening all-you-can-eat has a two-hour limit from the first order — lunch does not — and the house charges ten kroner per piece if you leave more than three pieces behind at settlement. Both are stated on their own menu page. Neither is meant meanly, but they change how you order the last round.
8. Sushi Factory, Amager
Amagerbrogade 40, 2300 Copenhagen S. Open daily 15-22. The kitchen closes at 21.30. Phone +45 32 65 88 88.
Amager's cheapest all-you-can-eat and the city's second cheapest after Takii. 239 kroner Sunday to Thursday, 259 Friday, Saturday and public holidays. Children under eleven pay half. A handful of dishes on the menu carry a surcharge of five or ten kroner, worth reading before you order the third round.
The price rose to 239 and 259 kroner on 1 February 2025. The front page still carries an older notice about an adjustment "from 1 September" that ends with a Merry Christmas — it has been overtaken by the February one. 239 and 259 are what the all-you-can-eat menu says today.
There are four branches: Amager, Frederiksberg on Godthåbsvej 96, Gentofte and Charlottenlund. Note that Frederiksberg does not sell all-you-can-eat on Fridays — turning up there on a Friday expecting the flat price is a surprise you get at the table.
One last thing: the venue's own front page and contact block disagree about when the all-you-can-eat window opens — one says 15, the other 16. The opening hours themselves, 15 to 22, are the same in both places.
9. Hana Sushi, Sydhavn
Stubmøllevej 2, 2450 Copenhagen SV. Monday to Thursday 13-21, Friday and Saturday 12-22, Sunday 13-21. Phone +45 52 81 52 81.
Hana is a takeaway operation, not a sit-down restaurant, and it comes last because it is a different kind of evening. In return it is the cheapest sushi in this guide, at a price that does not resemble the others: a vegetarian menu of seventeen pieces is 169 kroner, a salmon menu of twenty-four is 259, and a party menu of 119 pieces is 1,299 kroner — about eleven kroner a piece.
The kitchen calls itself Japanese and Chinese inspired, and the menu is correspondingly broad: sushi next to wonton and spring rolls, plus poke, taco sushi, sticks, hot dishes and a children's menu. Gyoza is 59 kroner for six, vegetarian spring rolls 45 for six, tempura ebi 59 for four.
In-house delivery runs Friday and Saturday only. The rest of the week delivery goes through Wolt. They run two domains: sushihana.dk is the presentation site, hana-sushi.dk is the ordering system. Same business.
What it costs
A filling sushi dinner in Copenhagen costs between 189 and 945 kroner, and the price tells you exactly which kind of evening you have bought.
Under 300 kroner is all-you-can-eat: Takii from 189 at lunch and 219 in the evening, Sushi Factory at 239, Nozomi at 269. You order freely, eat until you are full, and the kitchen works at pace.
Between 300 and 550 is à la carte and set menus: Sticks'n'Sushi from 375, Jah's omakase tasting at 495, Damindra's lunch omakase at 485.
Over 600 is omakase proper: Kinyōbi at 650, Damindra at 945. Here you are not paying for volume.
The best quality per krone in the whole city is Damindra at lunch. 298 kroner for a bento box at a restaurant whose evening menu costs three times as much is the closest Copenhagen comes to a loophole.
Where to go, depending on what you need
- The best sushi, full stop: Damindra. Book dinner if you want the whole sequence.
- The same quality at half the price: Damindra at lunch, Tuesday to Saturday.
- An evening that does not end with the food: Kinyōbi. The bar runs until 2 on Friday and Saturday — read the door policy first.
- Fast and proper in the middle of the day: Sushi Lovers in Torvehallerne.
- As much as possible for the money: Takii in Nørrebro, 189 kroner at lunch Tuesday to Thursday. Sushi Factory on Amager is 239 Sun-Thu.
- Late and central: Nozomi is open until 22 every day, Kinyōbi longer.
- Japanese food that is not sushi: Jah Izakaya in Vesterbro.
- Home on the sofa: Hana Sushi in Sydhavn, or takeaway from Sticks'n'Sushi.
Sushi neighbourhood by neighbourhood
The nine sit in seven neighbourhoods, and the spread is uneven: four of the nine are in Indre By and Frederiksstaden, and the other five neighbourhoods have exactly one place each. Searching for a particular neighbourhood, the answer is therefore usually a single address — and three times the answer is that there is none.
| Neighbourhood | Place | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Frederiksstaden | Damindra, Nozomi | 9.0 · 7.8 |
| Indre By | Kinyōbi, Sushi Lovers | 8.7 · 8.2 |
| Nørrevold | Sticks'n'Sushi Nansensgade | 8.3 |
| Vesterbro | Jah Izakaya | 8.5 |
| Nørrebro | Takii Sushi Bar | 7.5 |
| Amagerbro | Sushi Factory | 7.3 |
| Sydhavn | Hana Sushi | 7.1 |
Nørreport and Israels Plads
Two of the nine are here, and they answer two different kinds of evening. Sticks'n'Sushi at Nansensgade 59, 1366, is open every day from eleven until half past ten, and until eleven on Friday and Saturday — the longest week in this guide. Sushi Lovers is stall G10 inside Torvehallerne at Rømersgade 18, 1362, and closes at eight on weekdays and seven on Sunday. For a late dinner near Nørreport it is Nansensgade; for lunch it is the market hall.
Indre By and Strøget
Two of the nine are in Indre By: Kinyōbi at Antonigade 2 and Sushi Lovers as stall G10 in Torvehallerne. Count Frederiksstaden in — and most people searching do — and Damindra at Sankt Annæ Plads 16 and Nozomi at Store Kongensgade 60 join them, which puts four of the nine inside the old town.
There is none on Strøget itself. The two nearest are Sushi Lovers, about 440 metres from Krystalgade, and Kinyōbi, about 485. Both are a few minutes' walk from the pedestrian street, but neither is on it.
Nyhavn
There is no sushi in Nyhavn itself — not in our dataset, and not among the restaurants the quay is known for. The guide's number one is closer than you would think, though: Damindra at Sankt Annæ Plads 16 is about 300 metres from the canal, four or five minutes on foot. Then Nozomi on Store Kongensgade at around 650 metres.
To eat around Nyhavn without it being sushi, the whole area is in places to eat by Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv.
Kødbyen
There is no sushi in the Meatpacking District. Not one of the nine, and nothing else in the halls that we have in the dataset. Worth saying plainly, because the quarter otherwise has almost everything.
The nearest is just outside: Jah Izakaya & Sake Bar at Gasværksvej 21 is about 275 metres from the halls — an izakaya rather than a sushi restaurant, but the sushi is there, and it is the guide's third best. The rest of the quarter is in the guide to Kødbyen.
Østerbro
None of the nine is in Østerbro. That is the honest answer, and we do not have a place there we can vouch for. Iki Sushi has branches on Århusgade and Nordre Frihavnsgade, but they are not ranked here — see the section on addresses we could not price.
Amager
One place, and it is Sushi Factory at Amagerbrogade 40, 2300 Copenhagen S. Open all seven days from three until ten, all-you-can-eat at 239 kroner Sunday to Thursday and 259 on Friday and Saturday. It is number eight of the nine, and the cheapest all-you-can-eat in the city after Takii in Nørrebro. If you are in Sydhavnen instead, it is Hana Sushi at Stubmøllevej 2 — open from one until nine on weekdays and from twelve until ten on Friday and Saturday.
Vesterbro
None of the nine in the ranking is a sushi restaurant in Vesterbro, and that is the honest answer to the question. The closest is number four, Jah Izakaya at Gasværksvej 21: sashimi for 210 kroner and an omakase tasting menu for 495 kroner per person, minimum two — but no nigiri and no maki.
If you want nigiri and all-you-can-eat in Vesterbro, there are two addresses on Vesterbrogade, neither of them ranked here. Iki Sushi is at Vesterbrogade 113, 1620 Copenhagen V, open every day from 11 to 22 with the kitchen until 21.30. All-you-can-eat is served from 17 to 21.30 and costs 268 kroner Monday to Thursday and 289 Friday to Sunday. Kanagawa Sushi at Vesterbrogade 89 also does all-you-can-eat, but the price is not on its own site — see the section below.
Four addresses that do not exist
This guide was built by checking sixteen candidate names against the venues' own websites. Four of them do not exist in Copenhagen, and all four recur on other recommendation lists:
Umi on Grønnegade does not exist. Grønnegade 39 is Restaurant Grønnegade, a French restaurant. There is an Umi on Jernbane Allé in Vanløse — different district, different place.
Yama Sushi we could not document in Copenhagen. The nearest matches are YaYa Sushi in Brønshøj, Wami Sushi on Amager and Sushi Yama in Gothenburg.
Ichi Sushi is most likely a mix-up with Iki Sushi, which has four branches on Århusgade, Nordre Frihavnsgade, Vesterbrogade and Gl. Kongevej.
Sushi Amane appeared in no source we could confirm.
And four that do exist but could not be priced. We do not publish prices we have not seen on a venue's own site, so they are out of the ranking — not because they are bad, but because we cannot document enough about them:
Karma Sushi has branches in Nyhavn, at Trianglen and in Valby, but karmasushi.dk blocks all automated reading.
Kanagawa Sushi is at Vesterbrogade 89, 1620 Copenhagen V, open Sunday to Thursday 13 to 22 and Friday and Saturday 12 to 22. The Nordhavn branch is open every day 13 to 21.30. The place markets itself on all-you-can-eat, but the price is not on their own site — and the front page still carries a Christmas notice from December 2025, so check the hours before you travel.
Hatoba has a branch on Islands Brygge and one in Lyngby, but their site is an ordering system with neither prices nor opening hours.
Selfish exists, but selfish.dk blocks outside reading the way Karma does, so we have no address, hours or prices from a source we trust.
Questions and answers
Where do you get sushi in Indre By?
Two of the nine: Kinyōbi at Antonigade 2, which is omakase and evenings only, and Sushi Lovers as stall G10 in Torvehallerne, which is lunch and early evening. Count Frederiksstaden in and Damindra on Sankt Annæ Plads and Nozomi on Store Kongensgade join them — four of the nine inside the old town. There is none on Strøget itself; the two nearest are about 440 and 485 metres away.
Is there sushi in the Meatpacking District?
No. Neither among the nine nor anywhere else in the halls that we hold in the dataset. The nearest is Jah Izakaya & Sake Bar at Gasværksvej 21, about 275 metres outside — an izakaya where the sushi is part of the card rather than all of it.
Where is the best sushi in Copenhagen?
Damindra at Sankt Annæ Plads 16. The kitchen is Japanese tradition with Sri Lankan roots, run by three head chefs, and the evening menu starts at 585 kroner with omakase at 945. To try the place for less, come at lunch, where à la carte begins at 298 kroner. Kinyōbi on Antonigade is the closest alternative, with omakase at 650.
What does sushi cost in Copenhagen?
Between 189 and 945 kroner for dinner. All-you-can-eat starts at 189 for lunch at Takii in Nørrebro, 239 at Sushi Factory on Amager and 269 at Nozomi in Indre By. Set menus at Sticks'n'Sushi run 375 to 525 kroner per person. Omakase is 650 at Kinyōbi and 945 at Damindra. Single pieces of nigiri are 28 to 32 kroner at the cheaper places and 115 kroner for toro at Kinyōbi.
Where can you get all-you-can-eat sushi in Copenhagen?
Three places in this guide. Takii at Jagtvej 113 is the cheapest: 189 kroner at lunch Tuesday to Thursday, 219 Friday to Sunday, and 219 to 239 in the evening. Nozomi at Store Kongensgade 60 charges 269 kroner Monday to Thursday and 289 Friday to Sunday, open 12 to 22 every day. Sushi Factory at Amagerbrogade 40 charges 239 kroner Sunday to Thursday and 259 Friday, Saturday and public holidays, open 15 to 22. All three have table service, so you order from the menu rather than walk to a buffet.
What is omakase, and where can you get it in Copenhagen?
Omakase means leaving the menu to the kitchen — you do not choose, and the chef serves whatever is best that day. Three places in this guide offer it: Kinyōbi at 650 kroner per person, Damindra at 945 in the evening or 485 at lunch, and Jah Izakaya at 495 with a two-person minimum.
Where can you eat sushi in Copenhagen on a Sunday?
Nozomi is open Sunday 12 to 22, Takii in Nørrebro 13 to 22, Sushi Factory on Amager 15 to 22, and Sticks'n'Sushi on Nansensgade 11 to 22.30 with the kitchen open until 21.30. Damindra is closed both Sunday and Monday, so it is not a place you can improvise your way into at the weekend.
How late can you eat sushi in Copenhagen?
Kinyōbi on Antonigade stays open until 2 on Friday and Saturday and is the only place in this guide where the bar continues past midnight. Jah Izakaya in Vesterbro takes its last food order at 22. Otherwise the city's sushi kitchens close between 21.30 and 22.30, and several shut the kitchen an hour before the sign on the door says.
Is there sushi in Torvehallerne?
Yes. Sushi Lovers has stall G10 in hall 1 at Rømersgade 18, open from 11.30 every day and longest on Friday, when they run until 21. The menu has a separate section of nigiri from the house's World Sushi Cup entry, and a mini tasting of four pieces costs 139 kroner.
Addresses, prices and opening hours come from the venues' own websites and menus, checked in September 2026. None of the nine has a place page here on eatlocal — there are no sushi restaurants in our Copenhagen dataset, and the guide would be empty without them. Every single detail has therefore been checked against the venue's own site, and where sources contradict each other, we say so in the text. Sushi Anaba is left out because it holds a Michelin star, and we only include restaurants you can get a table at on a Tuesday. We include one branch per chain.
