Damindra is the best sushi in Copenhagen that does not have a Michelin star, and that is a description rather than a consolation prize. The restaurant is owned by Damindra Tillekeratne, and the kitchen calls itself Japanese tradition with Sri Lankan roots and a Nordic expression.

The most important thing to know before you book: à la carte is served at lunch only. In the evening it is a set menu, and there is no way around it. Lunch starts at 298 kroner for a bento box, individual dishes run from 180 to 398, and the lunch omakase costs 485. In the evening the menu starts at 585 and tops out with omakase at 945.

If you want to try the place without giving up a whole evening, come for lunch. It is also the only sitting where children are welcome.

The house does not take Amex or Diners. And note the address — the restaurant has moved from Holbergsgade to Sankt Annæ Plads, and the old one still turns up elsewhere.
