A basement restaurant with sushi platters and yakitori skewers — Sticks'n'Sushi på Nansensgade

This is the original. Sticks'n'Sushi opened on Nansensgade in 1994 in a small basement, started by Jens and Kim Rahbek together with Thor Andersen, and today the chain runs restaurants in Germany, England and Scotland. Nansensgade is still where the concept makes the most sense: a street that looks nothing like the rest of the city centre, and a terrace out front when the weather allows.

Salmon nigiri costs 32 kroner a piece, 58 for two. Gyoza 135, Sashimi Deluxe 299. The set menus are 375, 435 and 525 kroner per person for a minimum of two. There is no omakase — the menu is split into à la carte at the front and set menus at the back, and that is the whole range.

The kitchen closes an hour before the restaurant: half past nine Sunday to Thursday, ten on Friday and Saturday. Booking goes through OpenTable, and there is takeaway for both collection and delivery.
