About night spots in Aalborg

Nightlife in Aalborg gets measured on Jomfru Ane Gade, the most talked-about drinking street in Denmark, and the city does not escape that. The reputation is earned — the street works the way it always has — but the six places here show that the city's night also exists beyond those same hundred metres of facades.

Pigen og Trompeten has been on the street since 1994 and is its oldest disco. Friday and Saturday it runs from nine in the evening until six in the morning, the age limit is twenty and twenty-one, and people dance. Proud Mary a few doors along is a pub rather than a club: open every day, 13.00 at the weekend and 15.00 on weekdays, and the doors shut at 2. Black Swan opens at four in the afternoon Thursday to Saturday and closes at three. The club is therefore the only one of the three that stays open past three.

Off the street sits Studenterhuset on Gammeltorv, the city's venue for live music. There are gigs, club nights and board games, many of the concerts are free, and the café is open from the afternoon. Friday and Saturday it runs until two in the morning.

If you would rather drink than dance, Sylvius on Algade stays open until one on Friday and Saturday with more than eighty gins, and Whiskybaren on Jens Bangs Gade until two. Both are small, and that is the point. One practical note: the street does not get going until late, and from Sunday to Wednesday the whole city is quiet.
