Cheeseburger on the bench outside the old petrol station — Gasoline Grill on Landgreven

At a glance

8 places. The score is our own, on a scale from 1 to 10. The price is one of four levels, not an amount. Opening hours are the places' own — not a check of whether they are open right now.

A cheeseburger in Copenhagen costs between 99 and 150 kroner, and the price tells you less about quality than in any other category in the city. The cheapest place on this list uses 200 grams of beef. The most expensive uses 150 grams, but dry-ages it for sixty days and smokes its own bacon. What actually separates them is not the bun and not the sauce — it is where the meat comes from, and whether anyone in the building touched it before it became a patty.

Below are eight addresses, ranked on exactly that. Prices and opening hours come from each venue's own site in September 2026. Three candidates dropped out because they no longer exist, and they are listed at the bottom.

The eight, at a glance

Place Neighbourhood Cheeseburger The meat
Gasoline Grill Indre By 110 kr. Organic, ground in house daily
POPL Christianshavn 150 kr. Organic Danish, own bacon
BOBS Indre By from 79 kr. Local butcher, sous vide 3 hours
Tommi's Burger Joint Meatpacking 110 kr. 150 g chuck, delivered fresh daily
Jagger Nørrebro — Organic free-range beef
Halifax Indre By 109 kr. 150 g ground
Cocks & Cows Indre By 99-109 kr. Everything house-made
The Bronx Burger Bar Indre By 99 kr. 200 g ground

1. Gasoline Grill, Indre By

Landgreven 10, 1301 Copenhagen K. Open every day from eleven to half past nine — or until they sell out, which they say themselves happens.

Gasoline Grill sits top for one reason: they grind their own organic beef in house every day. That is the wording on their own card, and it is the shortest route from animal to patty on this list. The formula is stubborn — six burgers, no more, out of a converted petrol station.

Cheeseburger, Original and Butterburger all cost 110 kroner, the Green Burger 100, and fries 40. Two of the six carry no meat: the Green Burger on seasonal vegetables and the Matr Burger on a fermented plant patty.

"Open every day from 11.00 until sold out" appears on every one of their location pages, and it is not marketing. Arrive late on a Friday and they may be closed before half past nine. There are ten addresses in greater Copenhagen; Landgreven is the original and the only one we include.

There are not many seats. Most people eat standing or take it away.

2. POPL, Christianshavn

Strandgade 108, 1401 Copenhagen K. Dinner every day from five to half past ten, last order at nine. Lunch only Saturday and Sunday from twelve to two. Phone +45 32 96 32 92.

POPL is the most expensive burger in this guide and the only one served medium-rare, with the Danish food authority's caveat printed on the card. That is a signal of how much they trust the meat: organic Danish beef and bacon cured and smoked in house.

The cheeseburger, the hamburger and the vegetarian all cost 150 kroner — the same price, which is rare and says something. The dry-aged burger on sixty-day beef costs 250. A fixed seasonal menu is 450 kroner per person, fries 55. The vegetarian runs on quinoa tempeh, not an industrial patty.

The kitchen works with fermentation techniques they describe as coming from noma's lab. Note the lunch window: Saturday and Sunday from twelve to two and no other day. Turn up on a Wednesday at noon and it is closed.

3. BOBS, Indre By

Dronningens Tværgade 22, 1302 Copenhagen K. Open Monday and Tuesday from eleven to eight, Wednesday and Thursday until half past eight, Friday and Saturday until nine, and Sunday until eight. Phone +45 93 83 69 59.

BOBS is the newest place on the list and the most worked through. The chef Robin Alexandersen opened in January 2023, and every single component has an address: beef with over twenty per cent fat from a Copenhagen butcher, organic brioche buns baked by Jalm&B in Kastrup, ketchup from Bornholm, pickles from Samsø.

The patty is cooked sous vide at 54.5 degrees for three hours before it goes on the grill. That is not a technique you see elsewhere in this price bracket. The vegetarian option runs on a parsley-root patty.

Burgers range from 79 to 145 kroner, the vegetarian being the cheapest. A meal with fries and a drink adds 50 kroner. There is outdoor seating and takeaway. The house also runs a food truck — a VW LT31 from 1983 — for events.

4. Tommi's Burger Joint, Meatpacking District

Høkerboderne 21-23, 1712 Copenhagen V. Open Sunday to Thursday from eleven to nine and Friday and Saturday until ten. Phone +45 33 31 34 34.

Tommi's opened in the Meatpacking District in 2014 and has stuck to seven burgers. The patty is 150 grams of what they call one hundred per cent prime ground chuck, delivered fresh every day by their butcher, and it is cooked medium. Buns are baked fresh to the house's own recipe.

Cheeseburger 110 kroner, bacon cheeseburger and béarnaise burger 125, veggie and vegan 110. A combo with fries and a drink runs between 150 and 165. The Pioneer uses Tommi's original 1981 burger sauce.

One thing to know in advance: they take no table reservations. It says so word for word on their own site, and that includes a Friday night in the Meatpacking District. Westend 13 is the head office, not a restaurant — there is only one customer-facing address in Copenhagen.

5. Jagger, Nørrebro

Nørrebrogade 114, 2200 Copenhagen N. Open Sunday to Thursday from eleven to ten and Friday and Saturday until eleven.

Jagger has the most detailed sourcing statement of any chain in this guide, and it is verified word for word: all beef is organic free-range, all chicken is Danish welfare chicken, and the buns are organic and baked in the chain's own bakery in southern Jutland. An own bakery is unusual for a chain of that size.

There are ten burgers on the card plus tacos. Four carry no meat — veggie, halloumi and a vegan one that comes on a gluten-free bun. There is takeaway and delivery through their own app.

Prices are not on their own site. Neither the menu page nor the location pages show a single figure, and their ordering platform could not be read. We therefore do not put a price level here. That is worth knowing in advance if you are planning to a budget.

There are around fifteen Jaggers in greater Copenhagen, and the chain calls the Nørrebrogade branch one of their largest.

6. Halifax, Indre By

Larsbjørnsstræde 9, 1454 Copenhagen K. The kitchen is open Sunday to Thursday from twelve to nine and Friday and Saturday until ten. The bar may run later. Phone +45 82 30 43 01.

Halifax has nine named burgers. København costs 109 kroner, Berlin 119, Amager 125, Halifax Smash 129, and Lone Star and Zürich 149. The patty is 150 grams of ground beef; Lone Star is 250 grams and the Smash two of 85.

What makes Halifax useful is not the meat but the substitution. Every burger can be had with breaded chicken or a mushroom-root patty instead of beef, the bun can be swapped for pretzel or gluten-free for 10 kroner, and any burger can be served as a salad bowl with no bun at all. All chicken is halal certified; the beef is not.

There is no build-your-own menu, whatever several catalogues say. It is a fixed menu with extensive add-ons — onion rings 12 kroner, bacon 15, jalapeños 10, extra cheese 12, a 250-gram patty 25. The children's burger comes with bun and patty and nothing else, so the rest is chosen on.

Larsbjørnsstræde is the chain's most central address, two minutes from Strøget, and also the smallest — they say so themselves. It is not wheelchair accessible. Halifax has six branches in Copenhagen and ten in total.

7. Cocks & Cows, Indre By

Gammel Strand 34, 1202 Copenhagen K. Open Sunday to Wednesday from twelve to ten, Thursday until eleven and Friday and Saturday until midnight. The kitchen and the cocktail bar keep different hours. Phone +45 69 69 60 00.

Cocks & Cows was founded in 2010 and runs what they call one hundred per cent homemade burgers, fries and sauces. The name is a division of labour: Cocks is for cocktails, Cows is for burgers.

Mr. Cheddy Eddy costs 99 kroner, Cheese & Smoke 109, Southern Fried Chicken 129 and El Mariachi 175. There are both vegetarian and vegan burgers on the card.

It is the place on this list that best carries a whole evening: two cocktail bars, a private dining room, a karaoke room and a heated courtyard, so the outdoor seating works all year. The place has won Byens Bedste four times.

There are seven addresses in total, four of them in Copenhagen. Gammel Strand is the one we include.

8. The Bronx Burger Bar, Indre By

Vandkunsten 1, 1467 Copenhagen K. Open Monday to Thursday from twelve to ten, Friday and Saturday until half past ten, Sunday until nine. The kitchen closes an hour before — they say so themselves. Phone +45 21 84 14 67.

Bronx has the largest patty on the list, 200 grams, and the cheapest cheeseburger, 99 kroner. The Bronx Burger costs 129, the Veggie Burger 119 and the Meat Feast XL 169. There are three plant-based: Beyond Meat 129, veggie 119 and falafel 119.

Fourteen burgers on the card plus a children's burger — the widest range in the guide. The place calls itself Copenhagen's oldest burger bar but does not say what year it opened, so that stands here as their wording rather than as a fact.

It comes last for one reason: the origin of the meat appears nowhere on their own site. At all seven others it does. That does not mean the burger is poor — 200 grams for 99 kroner is the best deal in the city — but it is the single criterion this list is sorted by.

There is one branch. The former one at Nørrebrogade 114 has closed.

What it costs

A cheeseburger in Copenhagen costs between 99 and 150 kroner. Bronx is cheapest, POPL dearest, and most sit between 109 and 125. The spread is narrower than in almost any other category in the city.

That means price is a poor way to choose. For the fifty kroner separating cheapest from dearest you get sixty days of dry-ageing and house-cured bacon at POPL, and 50 grams more beef at Bronx. Those are two different meals, not two levels of quality.

For the most meat per krone, Bronx is hard to beat. For the shortest distance between butcher and patty, it is Gasoline Grill or BOBS.

Where to go, depending on what you need

  • The city's best burger: Gasoline Grill. Own ground organic beef, six burgers, no more.
  • A burger as a dinner: POPL on Christianshavn. Remember lunch is only Saturday and Sunday.
  • Every ingredient with an address: BOBS on Dronningens Tværgade.
  • Most meat for the money: The Bronx Burger Bar. 200 grams for 99 kroner.
  • Without booking: Tommi's takes no reservations at all, and Gasoline Grill is a counter.
  • Vegetarian or vegan: Jagger has four meat-free on the card, Bronx three and Gasoline Grill two. All eight have at least one.
  • Halal chicken: Halifax. All chicken is certified; the beef is not.
  • A whole evening in one place: Cocks & Cows, with two bars, karaoke and a heated courtyard.
  • Late in the evening: Cocks & Cows until midnight on Friday and Saturday. It is the latest burger in this guide.
  • Close to Nyhavn: four of the eight sit within ten minutes' walk of the canal — Gasoline Grill, POPL, BOBS and Cocks & Cows. The whole quarter is covered in where to eat near Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv.

Three addresses that no longer exist

Grillen Burgerbar does not exist in Copenhagen. Their own site is now Aalborg only. The Vesterbrogade and Christianshavn branches went bankrupt on 29 November 2024, Nørrebrogade ten months earlier. The old Copenhagen addresses on their site return 404.

Halifax Nørrebro is gone. The name still sits in the menu on halifax.dk, but the branch appears in none of the three address lists on the site, and the address serves the Copenhagen K page. Halifax has six branches in Copenhagen, not seven.

Juicy Burger cannot be confirmed. Two different places share the name, their own site refuses all automated lookups, and at least one directory reports it permanently closed. We leave it out until someone has been past.

Questions and answers

Where is the best burger in Copenhagen?

Gasoline Grill at Landgreven 10. They grind their own organic beef in house every day, which none of the others do, and the card carries only six burgers. A cheeseburger costs 110 kroner. POPL on Christianshavn is the alternative if the burger is meant to be dinner rather than lunch.

What does a burger cost in Copenhagen?

A cheeseburger costs between 99 and 150 kroner. The Bronx Burger Bar on Vandkunsten is cheapest at 99 kroner for 200 grams of beef, POPL dearest at 150 kroner. Most sit between 109 and 125. A meal with fries and a drink typically adds 40 to 55 kroner.

How many Halifax are there in Copenhagen?

Six. Amager, Frederiksberg, Copenhagen K, Østerbro, Valby and Vesterbro. Halifax has ten restaurants in total; the other four are in Hillerød, Køge, Lyngby and Roskilde. The Nørrebro branch still appears in the menu on their site but no longer exists.

Does Halifax have a build-your-own burger?

No. Several Danish directories say so, but it does not appear on Halifax's own site. The menu has nine fixed burgers with extensive substitutions: beef can be swapped for breaded chicken or a mushroom-root patty, the bun for pretzel or gluten-free at 10 kroner, and any burger can be served as a salad bowl with no bun.

Where can you get a vegetarian or vegan burger in Copenhagen?

All eight places in this guide have at least one. Jagger has the most with four — veggie, halloumi and a vegan one on a gluten-free bun. Bronx has three, including Beyond Meat at 129 kroner. Gasoline Grill has the Green Burger on seasonal vegetables and the Matr Burger on a fermented plant patty.

Can you get a burger in Copenhagen without booking a table?

Yes. Tommi's Burger Joint in the Meatpacking District states outright that they take no table reservations at all. Gasoline Grill is a counter with few seats where most people take the food away. Halifax, Bronx and Cocks & Cows accept reservations but also work as walk-ins.

How late can you get a burger in Copenhagen?

Cocks & Cows on Gammel Strand is open until midnight on Friday and Saturday and is the latest address in this guide. The Bronx Burger Bar closes at half past ten at the weekend, but the kitchen shuts an hour earlier. That is worth allowing for: several of these places stop the food an hour before the sign on the door.

Prices, addresses and opening hours were taken from each venue's own website and menu in September 2026. Only Gasoline Grill and Jagger are in our dataset and have a place page here on eatlocal; the other six are included because the guide would be wrong without them. Where a fact is not on the venue's own site we say so rather than guess — which is why there is no price level for Jagger. We take only one branch per chain, and Michelin-starred restaurants are not included.
