Burgers from a disused petrol station — organic meat, and they close when they sell out.

Gasoline Grill began in a disused petrol station on Landgreven and has stuck to the formula: six kinds of burger, organic beef ground in house every day, potatoes cut the same day. When the day's meat is used up, they close.

It is one of the few burger bars in the country to have earned international attention, and the reason is simplicity: few things, done the same way every time. The patty is thin and hard-seared, and the bun is soft enough to collapse around it. Two of the six have no meat — the Green Burger on seasonal vegetables and the Matr Burger on a fermented plant patty.

Open every day from eleven to half past nine — or until the meat runs out, which they say themselves happens before closing.

There are not many seats. Most people eat standing or take it away. It suits a quick lunch in the city centre and anyone who wants to know what the fuss is about. Come outside lunchtime to avoid the queue.
