About wine bars in Odense

The wine bars in Odense are few and small, and they sit in the same corner of the city. Klaregade, a few minutes from the pedestrian street, has two of them, and Store Gråbrødrestræde has two more. The whole route can be walked in one evening, and there are people who do exactly that.

Lalou on Klaregade is the natural wine bar: a small, dark room with a list that changes and staff who will pour you a taste before you choose. There are no outdoor seats, and that is part of the point. They open at two in the afternoon and stay open until one in the morning on Friday and Saturday. Svineriet Vinapotek further down the same street runs Wednesday to Saturday and closes at the same hour at weekends.

Kok & Vin on Store Gråbrødrestræde is a restaurant first, but the cellar is the house's pride, and the staff will choose for you if you tell them what you normally drink. KORK Vinbaren at the other end of the street is small enough that you ask rather than read — the first glass of the evening rather than the whole evening.

Two places fall outside the pattern. Nelles Coffee & Wine on Overgade is a coffee bar from seven in the morning and a wine bar until closing, which makes it the easiest to walk into early. Lørups Vinstue behind the theatre on Claus Bergs Gade is, despite the name, a pub rather than a wine bar — come for the room, not the list.

Amy's Bar & Winehouse on Jernbanegade calls itself a bar with good wine rather than a wine bar: draught beer and cocktails beside the wine list, cheese and charcuterie at 135 kroner a board, and open from noon until one in the morning Monday to Wednesday and until three on Friday and Saturday. It and Nelles are the only two open on Sunday; most of the others stay shut on Monday too.
