Juno is a small corner bakery in Østerbro where the queue starts before they open. The reason is the cardamom bun: crisp outside, heavy with butter inside, under a layer of pearl sugar that crunches.

The bakery has been on Århusgade since 2018 and has become the standard other Danish bakeries are measured against. There is also excellent sourdough and changing seasonal pastries, but they sell out early, and there are no reservations.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from half past seven to six and Sunday until four. Closed on Monday. Come before ten at weekends if you want to be sure of the bun.

There are no tables inside beyond a couple of seats, so it is takeaway with a corner of the pavement as the dining room. It suits a walk through Østerbro and anyone who wants to taste what Danish baking has become.

Why it's worth a visit

  • A cardamom bun in a class of its own
  • Sourdough baked the same morning
  • Closed Monday — and a queue the rest of the week
