About wine bars in Copenhagen

The wine bars of Copenhagen are eight places with eight different ideas of what a wine bar is. Some are shops that pour. Some are restaurants that turn into bars over the course of an evening. And a couple of them close before the evening has even started.

Ved Stranden 10 is where you begin. It sits on the canal looking across at Christiansborg, keeps many bottles open by the glass, and makes small plates designed to follow the wine. Den Vandrette on Havnegade is the cellar version — natural wine leaning French, tables right down at the water, open from five, Tuesday to Saturday.

Natural wine is spread across the city. Terroiristen on Jægersborggade is shop and bar in the same room and closes at six; this is afternoon wine, not evening wine. Je t'aime on Dybbølsgade goes the other way and is open from eight in the morning until midnight on weekdays. Nebbiolo by Nyhavn sticks to Italy, and mostly Piedmont, pouring every day from three until midnight. Bar Una on Oehlenschlægersgade is on the list too, but it is more cocktail bar than wine bar and only opens Wednesday to Saturday.

Then there is the water. La Banchina on Refshaleøen has sixteen seats, a jetty and a sauna, and Lille Bakery a couple of hundred metres away pours natural wine with a lunch it baked the bread for itself. Both close in the afternoon or early evening, so this is a trip you make in daylight.
