A natural wine cellar by the harbour with tables right down to the water.

Orange wine and small plates on the quay in front of the wine bar — Den Vandrette

Den Vandrette is small, low-ceilinged and sits so close to the water by Nyhavn that you can put your glass on the quay. The list is natural wine weighted towards French imports, and the selection changes constantly.

The bar belongs to the importer Rosforth & Rosforth, which is why the bottles are what they are: low sulphur, small growers, things you will not find in a supermarket. The food is cheese, charcuterie and a couple of warm dishes — enough for an evening, not enough for a dinner.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from five to eleven. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Come in the warmer half of the year, when you can sit outside with your feet towards the water. It suits two people who want to talk, and anyone who wants to try natural wine without being talked down to.
