La Banchina

La Banchina is small enough to count the tables and sits right on the water on Refshaleøen. There is a swimming jetty and a sauna, the list is natural wine, and the kitchen cooks a few dishes at a time from whatever came in.

It is as much a place to be as a place to eat. In summer people jump in the water between courses; in winter the sauna is the reason to come. The food is simple — fish, vegetables, bread — and changes by the day.

Open from eight every day. Thursday to Saturday they close at eight in the evening, the rest of the week at six.

There are sixteen seats, so come early or be prepared to wait with a glass in hand. It suits a long afternoon in the sun and anyone who wants to swim before or after eating. Bring a towel in summer.
