Sankt Peders Bageri is known for one thing: the Wednesday bun. Every Wednesday they bake a cinnamon swirl the size of a dinner plate, and the queue reaches out into Sankt Peders Stræde long before lunch.

The rest of the week it is an old-fashioned neighbourhood bakery with rolls, Danish pastry and no fuss whatsoever. It is the city's oldest bakery and has been on the street since 1652, and the interior has not kept pace with the times — which is part of the charm.

Open from half past seven Monday to Friday and eight on Saturday, until five on weekdays and four on Saturday. Closed on Sunday.

The prices are the lowest among the city's well-known bakeries. It suits a Wednesday when you are in the Latin Quarter anyway — and anyone who wants a classic Danish pastry without the sourdough talk.
