Jægergårdsgade is the street in Aarhus you can walk down from morning to night without needing to go anywhere else. It runs through Frederiksbjerg, just south of the central station, and together with M.P. Bruuns Gade and the side streets around it, it is the neighbourhood with the most places in our entire Aarhus guide: 17 of 54, almost one in three. Seven of them are on Jægergårdsgade itself, five on M.P. Bruuns Gade and five in the streets in between.

What sets Frederiksbjerg apart from the Latin Quarter and Åboulevarden is the range. This is where you find the only bakery in our Aarhus guide that opens at half past six, and two bars that stay open until two in the morning. The neighbourhood has both the restaurant we have given Aarhus' highest score and a pub that has never been done up. This guide ranks all seventeen and writes out the address and opening hours for each.

If you are looking for one category across the whole city, use the lists with a map and open-now filter: restaurants, bakeries, brunch, wine bars and bars in Aarhus.

The 17, ranked

The order follows our editorial score. Four places share 8.4 and four share 8.3 — within those ties the order is a choice, not a measurement.

1. Hærværk — Frederiks Allé 105

Hærværk has no menu in the usual sense. You get what the kitchen has been working on that day: fermented, cultured or grilled over embers, served by the cooks themselves with natural wine alongside. The room is raw concrete with an open kitchen and loud music. The score is 9.1, the highest we have given a restaurant in Aarhus, and the price level is 3.

Open Tuesday to Saturday 17.00-24.00. Closed Sunday and Monday, and there are not many tables — book well ahead.

2. Nordisk Spisehus — M.P. Bruuns Gade 31

Nordisk Spisehus builds its menus on the kitchen's trips to restaurants abroad and translates them into Nordic ingredients. The menu changes when the kitchen has been somewhere new. Service is warm and unfussy, and the price sits lower than the quality suggests — level 3, score 8.7.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from 17.30 to 22. Closed Sunday and Monday. Book for weekends.

3. Plukk — Kjeld Tolstrups Gade 12

Plukk is a plant shop and a place to eat in the same house. Lunch is tall open sandwiches and small dishes, with draught beer, wine and homemade lemonade. Tables can only be booked for lunch and not online on the same day; then you call 61 72 73 76. Coffee and something sweet need no booking.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 to 18 and Sunday from 10 to 16. Closed Monday.

4. Sct. Pauls Apotek — Jægergårdsgade 76

Sct. Pauls Apotek is a cocktail bar in a former pharmacy, where the cabinets and drawers are still in place. It is both bar and restaurant, and you can settle for either. It is one of four places in the neighbourhood at price level 3.

Open Wednesday and Thursday from 17.30 to midnight, Friday and Saturday from 17.30 to 2 am. Closed Sunday to Tuesday.

5. Jumbo Bakery & Eatery — Ankersgade 12B

Jumbo is a bakery in the morning and a place to eat for the rest of the day, on a back street a few minutes from Jægergårdsgade. The bread is their own, and lunch is built on it. There is seating outside.

Open Monday to Friday from 7.30 and Saturday and Sunday from 8, until 16 all seven days. It is a morning and lunch place, not an evening one.

6. Mammis Gelato — Jægergårdsgade 53

Mammis makes its gelato in the shop and changes the flavours with the seasons — dense and less sweet than industrial ice cream. There are also ice cream cakes, lollies and tubs to take home. Price level 1. In summer the queue reaches out onto the pavement.

Open every day from 12 to 21.

7. Aarhus Street Food — Ny Banegårdsgade 46

Aarhus Street Food gathers around thirty stalls in an old tram depot right behind the station, with communal tables and a bar in the middle. There are vegan and vegetarian options at several stalls, and takeaway if you need to move on. It is the neighbourhood's answer for a group that wants different things.

Open every day from 11.30 to 21.

8. Manda Eatery — Jægergårdsgade 57

Manda moves from breakfast through lunch to cake and coffee without changing tone. The cooking is green without being vegetarian, the baking is done in house, and the menu changes. The house does not take table bookings — you turn up and see if there is room.

Open Tuesday to Friday from 9 to 17 and Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 16. Closed Monday.

9. Forlæns og Baglæns — Jægergårdsgade 23

Forlæns og Baglæns makes Spanish tapas for sharing and pours wine and cocktails with them, from noon. The room is small and fills up in the evening, so an early lunch is the quiet time.

Open Tuesday to Thursday from 12 to 23 and Friday and Saturday from 12 to 1 am. Closed Sunday and Monday.

10. Klassisk Bistro 65 — Jægergårdsgade 65

Klassisk Bistro 65 is French country cooking: tartare cut by hand and beef flambéed at the table. The wine bar is part of the place, so you can sit down with a glass without eating. Price level 3.

Open all seven days from 17. We list midnight as closing time; the house itself says "late". Together with Juliette, it is the only one of the neighbourhood's six restaurants open on a Monday evening — and Juliette closes at 21.30, on Sundays at 21.

11. Kähler Spisesalon — M.P. Bruuns Gade 33

Kähler Spisesalon is the ceramics brand's own café: classic cakes and a generous brunch, served on Kähler's stoneware, which is also for sale in the shop. Brunch is served all morning.

Open every day from 9, until 17 on weekdays and 16 at weekends.

12. Schweizerbageriet — M.P. Bruuns Gade 56

Schweizerbageriet is the classic Danish bakery: rolls, Danish pastries, layer cakes and a "kagemand" cake to order. Price level 1. It is the only place in our entire Aarhus guide that opens before seven — and it does so all seven days.

Open Monday to Friday from 6.30 to 17.30, Saturday from 6.30 to 17 and Sunday from 6.30 to 14.

13. Mikkeller Bar Aarhus — Jægergårdsgade 61

Mikkeller has many taps that change every week, and staff who can explain what is on them. There are tasters if you are unsure.

Open every day. From 14, Saturday from 12. Sunday to Tuesday it closes at 23, Wednesday at midnight, Thursday at 1 and Friday and Saturday at 2.

14. Juliette — Jægergårdsgade 54

Juliette is a French brasserie used practically: coffee and croissants in the morning, lunch dishes in the middle of the day and bistro food in the evening. That makes it useful at odd hours. There is outdoor seating in summer.

Open Monday to Saturday from 10 to 21.30 and Sunday from 10 to 21.

15. Os Kaffe og Vin — M.P. Bruuns Gade 46B

Os turns from coffee bar into wine bar over the afternoon without changing room. Coffee and pastries in the morning, wine and small plates in the evening. You can book a table, which is unusual for a coffee bar.

Open every day: Monday to Friday 8-18 and at the weekend 9-18. The house stays open later on event days.

16. Ingerslevs Marked — Ingerslevs Boulevard 2B

Ingerslevs Marked is the city's market day: vegetables, fish, cheese, bread and coffee from stalls on the boulevard, largely organic. It is not street food in the food-hall sense, but you can have breakfast and do your shopping on the same trip. Come early.

Only Wednesday and Saturday from 8 to 14.

17. Peter Gift — M.P. Bruuns Gade 28

Peter Gift is a pub that has never been done up: draught beer, regulars and prices below the rest of the street. Food is served too, and you can book a table if you are eating. Price level 1.

Open Monday to Saturday from 11 to 1 am and Sunday from 14 to 22.

What the numbers say about the neighbourhood

Question Answer

Of which on M.P. Bruuns Gade 5
Open all seven days 9
Open on Sunday 11
Open on Monday 9
Price level 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 4 / 9 / 4 / 0

Monday is the hard day. Eight of seventeen are closed, and of the six restaurants only Juliette and Klassisk Bistro 65 are open. Sunday is easier than its reputation: eleven are open. Wednesday and Saturday are the only days when all seventeen are open, because Ingerslevs Marked only holds its market on those two days.

The neighbourhood has no expensive place to eat. None of the seventeen is at price level 4. The four at level 3 are Hærværk, Nordisk Spisehus, Sct. Pauls Apotek and Klassisk Bistro 65, and the four at level 1 are Schweizerbageriet, Mammis, Ingerslevs Marked and Peter Gift.

How this guide was made

All addresses, opening hours, price levels and scores come from our own dataset of places to eat in Aarhus, and the counts — seventeen in the neighbourhood, seven on Jægergårdsgade, eleven open on Sunday — were made in the dataset on 2 October 2026, not estimated. The boundary follows the neighbourhood we have registered each place in and is not an official district line; Ingerslevs Marked and Aarhus Street Food by the station are included.

Three places have estimated opening hours that have not been confirmed on the house's own site: Nordisk Spisehus, Klassisk Bistro 65 — whose own site says only "17.00 – sent" — and Kähler Spisesalon. Hærværk, Mammis Gelato and Os Kaffe og Vin were confirmed against the houses' own sites on 10 October 2026, and all three were wrong until then. Check the place's own site before you go, and write to us if something here is wrong. Michelin-starred restaurants are not included.

More angles on the same streets: wine bars in Aarhus has four of the neighbourhood's places, and street food in Aarhus has the food halls.
