Fish and oysters in an old slaughterhouse hall in the Meatpacking District — from lunch until late.

Oysters on ice and raw fish with edible flowers — Kødbyens Fiskebar

Illustration made with AI

Kødbyens Fiskebar sits in one of the white slaughterhouse halls on Flæsketorvet and has made fish its entire business: oysters, raw fish, fish soup and the day's catch. The tiled walls and the long bar make a room that is loud in the good way.

Oysters are the calling card, and they are cheapest early in the evening. If there are two of you, sit at the bar: shorter wait, better view of the kitchen, and you can order a little at a time rather than committing.

Open from half past eleven until midnight every day, and until one on Friday and Saturday. There are tables on the square in summer, when the quarter fills up from late afternoon.

This is a place for an evening that is not meant to be quiet — and one of the few in the Meatpacking District where the food rather than the atmosphere is the reason to come. Book at weekends, or arrive before seven.
