Choucroute and tarte flambée in the half-timbered courtyard — L'Alsace

Illustration made with AI

L'Alsace has been in Pistolstræde since 1978 and serves what the name promises: oysters, choucroute and Alsatian wine. The restaurant sits behind a gate on Ny Østergade in a cobbled courtyard with a fountain, and the noise of the shopping street disappears the moment the gate is behind you.

It is a brasserie, not a fine-dining room: French food cooked with precision and served without ceremony. Oysters are the house signature, and you can just as well come for a glass of wine at four as stay until late in the evening.

Open Monday to Saturday from half past eleven until midnight, with no afternoon break. Closed on Sunday. The courtyard has outdoor tables in summer, and they are the best reason to come.

It suits a lunch that is allowed to run long, and a dinner in the older part of town. The bill is a proper restaurant one, but you are also paying for the place.
