Slotskælderen hos Gitte Kik

A lunch cellar from 1910 by Christiansborg — herring, snaps and no fuss.

Slotskælderen has been in Fortunstræde since 1910 and looks the part: low ceilings, dark wood and a platter of the day's open sandwiches to choose from. It is the place politicians from parliament and tradesmen from the neighbourhood have shared for more than a century.
You walk up to the platter, see what is there and point. The herring is what people come for, and it is the strongest thing the house does. There are no long menus and no explanations — this is a lunch cellar, not a restaurant experience.
The restaurant is open every day of the week from eleven to five, with the kitchen serving between eleven and three. No dinner.
The price is the lowest among the city's classic lunch cellars, and the mood the least formal. It suits a lunch where you want the real thing without booking three weeks ahead — and a single snaps, if the afternoon allows.
