Ambra is the Italian restaurant from chef Andreas Bagh, who worked in a string of the city's Michelin kitchens before creating Esmée. The ambition is the New York Italian: somewhere that works on a Tuesday and at a party.

The pasta is made in house and the dishes are kept simple. The room has high ceilings, chandeliers and a bar that takes up as much space as the dining room — this is a restaurant where the evening is allowed to continue after dessert.

Evenings only, every day from five. Sunday to Thursday they close at one, Friday and Saturday at two. Store Kongensgade is a few minutes from Kongens Nytorv and Amalienborg.

It suits a dinner with several people where the room is allowed to be loud, and the late evening when you cannot be bothered to move on to a bar. Book ahead at weekends — the bar you can usually walk into.

Why it's worth a visit

  • Housemade pasta
